Nervous
That was not the word that went through his mind as he struggled to find a way to describe
his feelings. Nervouse didn't word the fear, yet excitment he felt. Nervous didn't tell of
how the anticipation hung in the air like cobwebs.

But it was all he could think of. It'd have to do.

He had all he needed right here. The vial. The fire. The right time. The right place. But
still a voice in his head whispered, "what are you doing here? Go home".

He shook his head and the thoughts scattered, and he heard their echo bounce off the walls,
"Home, home, home" and then fade to nothing.

He had no distractions now. He should get to work.

A sharp gust of wind cut through him like a knife, and a branch rustled-

She was here.

He was shocked. He hadn't even summoned her. But here she was.

"I didn't call you"
"You were going to"

She looked him straight in the eyes, not at all scared. Not like him. He looked away,
ashamed.

NO! He was her master! He wasn't going to let her stare him down like that!

"I own you. Do not talk to me like that"
"As you wish"

Silence, then, she spoke.
"Did you bring your tools?"
"of course! Did you bring yours?"
"yes"

Silence. The wind made another cut on his skin.

Without a word, she took a step towards the fire, and before he could stop her, threw a fine red power into it.
"NO!"
"Why?"
"I wasn't ready!"
"You're never ready"

He swore under his breath. Why did Meg have to be like this?
He reached a hand into his pocket, and slung his own fine, green power into the flames.

"The soul"
"Wait"
And, to give her credit, she did.

He took in a deep breathe and threw the red glass vial into the fire. He heard it smash.

Then the fire disapeard.
In it's place was a seemingly bottomless hole.

Meg walked to it, and, peering in, said the magic words.
"Shall we go in?"
"yes"
And they left.
